The UN International Day of Peace was celebrated with great enthusiasm on 21st and 22nd September 2024, bringing together Nagpur Book Club, Saving Dreamz Foundation, India Peace Day, Rotary Club of Nagpur Downtown, Department of Gandhian Thought - Nagpur University and Shree Krishna Hospital for a grand two-day cultural and social extravaganza.
This remarkable event, the brainchild of Dr. Tejinder Singh Rawal has been a tradition for the past 10 years, spreading the message of peace, unity and harmony among citizens.
*Day 1: 21st September 2024*
The event commenced early in the morning with a Handpan Music Meditation session at the India Peace Centre. Renowned Handpan artist Parvindar Singh mesmerized the audience, taking them on a meditative and soulful journey with his calming music. The session set a perfect tone for peace and mindfulness.
Following this, a Multi-Religious Prayer was offered by Dr. Tejinder Singh Rawal, bringing together people from diverse faiths to pray for global peace and harmony.
The highlight of the day was a friendly cricket match, played with great spirit by peace-loving citizens. The match symbolized camaraderie, sportsmanship and the unifying power of sports in promoting peace.
*Day 2: 22nd September 2024*
*Cycle Rally for Peace* The second day began with a massive Cycle Rally for Peace, which saw over 250 cyclists of all ages riding through prominent areas of Nagpur on a 7 km route, spreading the message of peace and harmony. The rally started from India Peace Centre and culminated at Gandhi Bhavan, LAD Square, in the premises of the Department of Gandhian Thought, Nagpur University.
At Gandhi Bhavan, participants were welcomed with refreshments and a photo booth, capturing their memorable moments from the rally.
*Inter-School Drawing Competition* A drawing competition on the theme of “Peace” was organized at Gandhi Bhavan, where over 200 students from 12 schools showcased their artistic skills, expressing their thoughts on peace and unity through colors.
Prizes were awarded to the best drawings in each age category, and every participant received a Certificate of Participation, chocolates and refreshments.
*Rope Skipping Demonstration by Nagpur Rope Skipping Association* The event also featured an electrifying Rope Skipping demonstration by student athletes of the Nagpur Rope Skipping Association. Their high-energy performance showcased incredible skills, leaving the audience in awe and adding excitement to the celebrations.
Over 500 citizens, cyclists and students participated in this two-day Festival of Peace, making it a grand success. The event was a beautiful blend of music, art, sports and community engagement, leaving every participant enriched with the values of peace and unity.
