Kids for Tigers Teachers Orientation Program held at Chitnavis Centre, Nagpur. More than 25+ schools participated in this inspiring event aimed at educating and empowering school teachers to become champions for wildlife and environmental conservation.
The program featured insightful talks from esteemed speakers on a variety of critical environmental topics, including:
1. Why Summer Was Harsh in Nagpur:
Speakers highlighted the rising temperatures, emphasizing the causes such as urban heat islands, deforestation and climate change. The session also included actionable suggestions on how schools and students can contribute to reducing the environmental impact.
2. The Importance of Native Trees:
The session focused on how native trees are crucial to sustaining local biodiversity, providing natural habitat and improving the ecological balance. Teachers were encouraged to incorporate tree plantation drives and promote the benefits of native species in their schools.
3. Bees and Their Role in Ecosystems:
The importance of bees as vital pollinators was discussed, along with how their dwindling numbers could threaten food security and biodiversity. The session also covered practical ways to create bee-friendly environments in school gardens.
4. Birds of India:
Teachers were introduced to the diverse bird species native to India, their ecological roles and how students can be engaged in birdwatching activities to foster a love for nature and conservation.
In addition to the enriching sessions, the teachers were treated to a delicious breakfast and lunch, providing a wholesome experience for all participants. The program not only educated but also created a platform for teachers to network and exchange ideas on how to integrate environmental education into their curriculums.
